Potato blight doesn't just feature in Irish history, it's also a problem now on Weston Avenue allotments. It's not just potatoes but tomatoes as well which are from the same family.

So to help your fellow allotmenteers, clear all potato and tomato waste from your allotment and put it in your green bin. The composting process followed by Central Bedfordshire Council contractors is more controlled than most of us can achieve.

Bonfires are discouraged and given the proximity of the housing you can understand why. So let's not annoy the neighbours.

Anything that would in the past have been put on the bonfire now needs to go in your domestic green bin.

Horseradish, dock and couch grass should be removed as well. These all require hot composting to process them which is more involved than many of us have the time to implement.
